Plasma Skin Resurfacing – What is it?

Written & Reviewed by Dr Isabella Sillar

At Elucell we are totally obsessed with Plasma Skin Resurfacing! Plasma Skin Resurfacing involves the combination of two separate processes: Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Microneedling.

Obtaining Plasma (PRP) is a straightforward process in which the patient’s blood is drawn and then placed into a centrifuge to separate the blood cells from the plasma and platelets which are then ‘micro-needled’ into the patient’s face.

How does Plasma Skin Resurfacing work?

Plasma (PRP) is a straightforward process in which the patient’s blood is drawn and then placed into a centrifuge in order to separate the blood cells from the plasma and platelets which are then ‘micro-needled’ into the patient’s face.

Microneedling, as the name suggests, involves creating 2mm micro channels in the superficial layer of the skin. The needles are attached to a special Microneedling pen (we use DermaPen4) which is used to make microscopic incisions that range in diameter from 1mm-2mm in depth.

Microneedling is a minimally-invasive, pain free procedure to capitalize on the body’s natural healing and regenerative processes stimulate the shedding of old dull skin and leave skin plump and radiant.

PRP and Microneedling work synergistically when combined; PRP is your healing and rejuvenating system concentrated in a serum to give you an immediate boost and the Microneedling improves blood flow, infuses PRP into the skin layers, stimulates collagen/elastin proteins and removal of old skin cells.

What are the benefits to Plasma Skin Resurfacing?

Plasma Skin Resurfacing is an effective non-surgical skin-rejuvenation treatment that can be used to manage skin related concerns such as:

  • Acne scarring
  • Skin pigmentation abnormalities
  • Signs of ageing such as expression lines or sagging skin
  • Large pores
  • Stretch marks
  • Overall skin texture and tone

We can also inject Plasma into the skin rather than Micro-needle. PRP injections are particularly useful for improving the area around the eyes, marionette lines, around the mouth or acne scars. The Plasma Skin Resurfacing treatment usually takes one hour.
