- HTML5PDO Lifting ThreadsThread lifting (otherwise known as the ‘non-surgical facelift’) is a preferred treatment by our patients due to it’s effectiveness and non-invasive nature. The threads are a suture-like material that are used to lift the sagging of the skin around the face and neck area.
About PDO Thread Lifting Melbourne
As we age, our skin loses its youthful appearance, and signs of ageing become more obvious, such as skin laxity. Sagging skin and volume loss are just two ageing indicators. Over time these changes can significantly alter the shape of the face.
A PDO thread lift, or suture lift, is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment designed to raise the midface, lower face, neck area and soften lines around the mouth and nose. It has been referred to as the “lunchtime face lift”, as it provides a lifting effect and can be performed by cosmetic doctors in under 60 minutes.
At Elucell, we use a minimally invasive technique focusing on midface, jowl and neck-lifting that involves subcutaneous placement of threads along a planned trajectory, accurately marked before treatment. The threads are then pulled to achieve the desired skin lift. A local anaesthetic is used to ensure the procedure is comfortable.
The goal of a thread lift treatment is to reposition sagging skin tissues and encourage collagen stimulation, thus restoring youthful proportions to the face and neck. While the procedure provides immediate results, its greater purpose is to encourage new collagen production to simulate long term results. As the face heals, new collagen and fibrous tissue forms around the PDO threads and continues to hold up and tighten the skin tissue.
Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are a type of material used for thread lift procedures. PDO is an absorbable polymer that is flexible and durable for threads. This is the same material that has been used in cardiovascular surgery for many years.
For men and women who only desire skin tightening and rejuvenation, PDO Mono Threads may be sufficient. Clients who desire more lifting and volume correction will better benefit from texture cog or screw threads.
Thread lifting procedures can be standalone cosmetic procedures or they can be combined with dermal fillers and anti wrinkle injections. We are able to customise for your individual needs and aesthetic concerns. For example, we can use dermal fillers first to recreate the youthful structure that is lost with aging and then we can use PDO threads to address the laxity in the superficial tissues.
Typically during a surgical facelift (Rhytidectomy), a flap of skin on each side of the face is pulled back, and tissues below the skin are surgically removed or repositioned. Before the flap is sutured closed. Almost all surgical procedures share the following side effects: swelling, bleeding, possible infection, potential hair loss, bruising. Recovery time varies depending on the type of procedure and extent of the facelift, however most of your recovery will take place in the first 8 to 10 weeks. We encourage you to do your homework before considering a permanent face lift.
A prior consultation is required to establish your suitability for the procedure. During your initial consultation your Practitioner will discuss the nature of the procedure and post-procedure regimes with you. It may be necessary to receive maintenance treatments every 6 – 12 months, depending on your specific age-reversal needs.

PDO Thread Lifts – FAQ
What are PDO Threads?
Once inserted, the polydioxanone suture will be absorbed by the body over time, approximately around 6 to 7 months. Results typically last 12 months.
By stimulating the body’s natural immune response, PDO Threads stimulate the production of collagen, resulting in restored skin elasticity and skin cell regeneration. This can help to improve the appearance of fine lines, skin laxity and jowling.
What areas can be treated with PDO Threads?
- Upper and lower cheeks
- Forehead
- Eyebrows
- Neck
- Jawline
- Mouth lines
- Smoker’s lines
- Crow’s feet
- Marionette lines
- Nasolabial folds
- Under-eyes
We will often combine our thread lift procedures with different treatments such as dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle treatment.
Thread lift treatment is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed by our cosmetic doctors.
Who is suitable?
PDO Threads can not be used on clients who have Diabetes Mellitus with complications of Dermal Necrosis. Other contraindications will be determined by your Practitioner.
How are Thread Lifts performed?
The procedure works by inserting very fine threads under the skin through a tiny hole made with a small needle. The threads grip under the surface of the skin enabling us to lift up the sagging skin. The threads are then secured to hold the lifted position of the skin.
- markings will be made in pencil to ensure symmetry;
- the skin will be thoroughly cleaned to reduce risk of infection;
- local anaesthetic will be injected or applied topically at key locations on the face;
- the threads will be inserted under the skin through a small hole made with a needle, and then pulled into position;
- the threads are secured and trimmed.

What is the difference between Mono Threads and Lifting Threads?
During a facial lifting procedure (e.g., mid-face lift), your Practitioner may use Cog Threads. Cog Threads are thicker lengths of PDO material that are loaded onto a cannula which is then inserted into the skin. These threads have little cogs (or barbs) on them that lift up the sagging skin of the cheek, jowl or brow when the thread is pulled upwards. As they are stronger than PDO Mono Threads, cogs can achieve more lifting and contouring. The results are immediate. This type of treatment is the most effective non-surgical treatment for face lifting.
What is a Fox Eye Lift?
- To create an elongated, almond shaped eye. This look involves placing lifting threads under the skin, so that the tail of the eyebrow and outer eye can be repositioned.
- To create brow lift – e.g., lift the brow to treat hooded lids of heavy eyebrows which often are caused by ageing – treatment for this indication is suitable from age 30 onwards.
- To correct asymmetry, where a thread is placed in one brow to lift one brow to create symmetry with the other.

Why combine PDO Threads and Dermal Filler?
Filler also allows for less downward tension on the threads, and therefore better settling of the threads and longevity.
Treatments to Compliment
Fox Eye Lift
The Fox Eye Lift is a non-surgical procedure that aims to lift the brow tail, open up the eyes and reduce hooding. Dissolvable barbed PDO threads are inserted at strategic points on the temple and forehead which when pulled upwards will hook under the skin and gently pull it back, lifting the skin around the eye up and out to create the desired upturned almond shape.Read moreBody Sculpting
Widely used in Europe and the USA for over a decade, PRP hair loss injections are a highly effective and affordable natural treatment for hair loss.Extensive scientific studies conclude that PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) can be used successfully to reverse the effects of male pattern baldness, female pattern baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia) and also expedite recovery from temporary hair loss causes such as excessive hairstyling, certain medications, thyroid disease, and pregnancy.Read moreDermal Fillers
As skin ages, it gradually loses collagen, elastin and fat. Strategically placed dermal fillers take the place of lost fat pads and collagen. Some even promote the production of collagen. This helps to enhance areas, such as the lips or cheeks, by adding volume in a controlled way.Read more
