What are PDO Rejuvenate Threads?

At Elucell, a boutique Medical Spa located in Richmond, we are completely obsessed with Threads. PDO Threads come in many designs and can be used to treat a number of skin concerns or aesthetic goals. They are designed to not only lift the skin, which is one of the more well known procedures using PDO Lifting Threads. They can also tighten the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as add volume. These threads are from the Rejuvenate Range otherwise known as Mono Threads.
As we age, we lose facial volume through bone resorption, muscle and fat atrophy, resulting in noticeable changes in the overlying skin with sagging, loss of skin tone and contour irregularities.
Combined with the gradual loss of collagen and elastin, the skin develops wrinkles, becomes looser and begins to sag which further contributes to a tired and ageing face.
PDO Mono threads work to target the changes of ageing by providing support and stimulating collagen in the skin, dissolving over a period of 6 – 8 months with long-lasting results. Maintenance is every 8-12 months.
The components of our range of PDO Mono rejuvenating threads actively work to stimulate collagen production which, over time, works to reverse changes causing roughen textures skin, fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity.
PDO Mono Rejuvenating threads are made of a fine synthetic material called Polydioxanone (PDO) with a long history of safe and reliable use in medicine and surgery such as in sutures to close wounds. This material will dissolve over time and is completely eliminated from the body.
How do rejuvenating PDO Threads work?
At Elucell, we have a wide range of different designed threads that help rejuvenate your skin and bring back the healthy glow your skin is missing out on. All while helping to reduce fine lines and enhance skin texture.
The PDO Rejuvenate Threads otherwise known as mono threads have many benefits:
- Boosts Collagen & Elastin: Helps to stimulate collagen production to help smooth and tighten the skin
- Shape & Symmetry: PDO Threads can be used to help shape and balance asymmetrical facial features
- Anti-aging: Helps to tighten, thicken and firm the skin, which in turn can help to reduce fine lines.
- Deep wrinkles: To plump up deep-seated wrinkles and static wrinkles resistant to antiwrinkle injections
- Eye area (Tear trough): To strengthen and support the eye area if they are looking tired and hollow
- Aged or sun-damaged skin: to restore firmness and thickness that radiates youthfulness
What are the PDO Threads made of?
Made from Polydioxanone which was originally developed a suture for wound closure material within surgery. The innovative method of using PDO suture material as a Face Rejuvenation method was pioneered by a team of Korean Physicians, and is now a preferred material for Face-Rejuvenation; this due to its high tensile strength, relatively low complications rate, and ability to be moulded into a variety of shapes.

What is the procedure for PDO Threads?
PDO Rejuvenate Threads take roughly 30-minutes. The procedure starts with a detailed assessment of your skin followed by marking the points for thread insertion. The face or other treatment areas are thoroughly cleansed and disinfected before our doctor inserts the PDO Threads. The angles, positioning and patterns of the thread lattice are carefully designed for your needs and inserted accordingly to get the best result for your problematic area.
PDO Threads aftercare
Immediately after the treatment, you may experience slight swelling or some bruising. This will resolve within 1 to 2 weeks. You will feel some mild firmness and slight tenderness in the areas that have been treated, and this will settle in 2-4 weeks. Most individuals will not require any pain relief after; however, paracetamol can be taken if necessary. The insertion sites must be kept clean and no strenuous exercise should be performed within a week. Sun exposure should be minimised. We will closely monitor your progress but usually results are seen after 6 weeks. In some cases depending on your aesthetic goals you may need to have more than one treatment, but this would be discussed with our treating doctor.
How are PDO Threads different to Dermal Fillers?
PDO Threads and Dermal Fillers treat different aspects of the face and skin. Threads are a dissolvable material, which helps to stimulate natural collagen to the skin while also providing instant support via its lattice structure. Dermal Fillers are mouldable gels used to replace lost volume or to reshape the facial structure.
Some designs of PDO Threads can be used to replace Dermal Filler. A discussion with our doctor is recommended to organise a treatment plan to meet your aesthetic goals. In some cases the end result can be used with a combination of Lifting Threads and Rejuvenate Threads rather than Dermal Filler.
How many threads will I need?
The number of threads needed and the type required will depend on your own personal circumstances and the condition of your skin. For example, we will use only a few thicker threads for the nasolabial fold, 10 or more mono threads for a small area of concern such as under eyes, 20 or more threads for the cheeks, and up to 100-200 threads for a more comprehensive total face or body rejuvenation.
How often should I have PDO threads done?
For most people, threads can be done every 8-12 months for ongoing collagen stimulation and improvement in the skin texture and elasticity. More intense treatment is recommended for areas that would benefit from significant improvement, and 3 sessions of treatments every 1-3 months is recommended, once the outcome is achieved maintenance is 12 monthly.
What is the cost of PDO Threads treatments?
Routine PDO Threads start from $600 for 10 threads. Larger areas may need more than 10 threads. There are also other types of threads available, each with specific indications and these are priced differently. The doctor will tailor a rejuvenation plan with you that is suitable to your skin’s needs.
